Castrol Partners with Lunar Outpost for Lunar Mission

Lunar Outpost has partnered with Castrol for the upcoming Lunar Voyage 1 (LV1) mission, which is set to launch in late 2024. This mission will explore the Shackleton Connecting Ridge near the lunar South Pole, marking a significant achievement in space exploration. Lunar Outpost, a U.S.-based company specialising in advanced space robotics and lunar mobility, will deploy the Mobile Autonomous Prospecting Platform (MAPP) rover, the first to explore this uncharted lunar region.

With over 60 years of experience providing lubricants to the space industry and a history of collaboration with NASA dating back to the first Apollo missions, Castrol will play a key role in the Mission Control Center. This collaboration is part of Castrol’s Castronomy™ initiative, which focuses on advancing space mobility through strategic partnerships.

The Lunar Voyage 1 mission aims to accomplish several historic milestones. These include deploying the first rover to the lunar South Pole, landing the first commercial rover on another celestial body, and enabling the first-ever commercial transaction of space resources. Castrol’s lubricants, engineered to endure such extreme conditions, will help ensure the mission’s success.
